Mizzou takes third in Air Force Quad

The Tigers placed third in their first quad meet of the season against the Air Force Academy, Texas Woman’s University and University of California, Davis. UC Davis took first with a team score of 193.325, followed by Air Force, 193.225, Mizzou, 193.000, and TWU with a score of 191.400.

Missouri started the meet on the Floor Exercise where the team was a little off balance, posting a score of 47.375. Junior Taylor Medrea started the rotation for MU with a 9.625 and junior Cathryn Aliceaacosta followed with a 9.450. Senior Tori Howard and Sandra Ostad posted a 9.075 and 9.600, respectively. Freshman Miranda Eubank, who was competing on this event for the first time, received a 9.625 to round out the team score.

Mizzou came back strong on Vault, where the team posted a 48.675, its highest event score of the meet. Ostad, Eubank and Howard each contributed a 9.725 to the team score. The other two gymnasts to compete on this event for Mizzou were sophomores Laura Kappler and Rachel Updike, who posted a 9.650 and 9.850, respectively.

In their third rotation the Tigers traveled to the Uneven Bars. Eubank gave the team its first score of 9.775, followed by Kappler who produced a routine worth 9.675. Junior Mackenzie McGill received a 9.650 on this event and Updike posted a 9.825. Medrea was the last Tiger to compete on this event, scoring a 9.675, which gave the team a score of 48.600.

Missouri finished strong on the Balance Beam, scoring a 48.250. Kappler began the rotation with a score of 9.725; Aliceaacosta and freshman Rachel Henderson posted a 9.700 and 9.150, respectively. Finishing the event for the Tigers were Updike, who scored a 9.850, and Howard, who received a 9.825.

Updike earned her first two event titles in this meet on Beam and Bars.

Next week the Tigers come back home to host Auburn University in the annual Beauty and the Beast event with MU wrestling on Feb. 1.
